Hardness -
Boron when combines with Carbon form Boron Carbide. Boron Carbide is an extremely hard substance. Therefore when Boron is added to the steel it reacts with the carbon present in the steel and provides extreme hardness to the steel. It increases the durability of the wire.
High Tensile Strength –
Boron Steel Wire has high strength as compared to other wires. Boron when reacts with the carbon becomes extremely hard. Due to this, its strength increases and it can be used in those applications where high strength is required.
Good Ductility –
Boron steel wire has good ductility. It can be cut, bent, and molded into different shapes and sizes without breaking or cracking.

Types of Boron Steel Wire
Boron Steel Wire is of 2 types:
Low Carbon Boron Steel Wire –
In this type of Boron Steel Wire, the carbon content is low. It is less strong than High Carbon Boron Steel wire. Low Carbon Boron Steel Wire is highly ductile and is easy to work with. It is more flexible and can be molded into different shapes without breaking.
High Carbon Boron Steel Wire –
In this type of wire, Carbon content is high as compared to low carbon Boron Steel Wire. This wire has high tensile strength and is less flexible as compared to Low Carbon Steel Wire. An increase in Carbon content decreases the softness of the wire.
Manufacturing of Boron Steel Wire
Addition of Boron –
Boron is added to the steel at the initial stage. It can be added by two different methods. One is passing the wires from a Boron-rich solution. Another one is adding the boron in the molten steel. The raw ingredients like iron ore, carbon, and manganese are melted in a large furnace and a small amount of boron is added to this mixture.
Casting –
This mixture of Boron and Steel is then solidified into billets or slabs.
Hot Rolling –
These large billets are passed through hot rollers in order to reduce their diameter and achieve the desired shape. These billets are converted into wire rods so that they can be easy to use.
Cold Drawing –
These wire rods are passed through dies and a series of rotating drums so that the wire achieves the required diameter. The number of dies and drums depends on the diameter of the wire required.
Annealing –
This Boron Steel Wire then undergoes an annealing process. In the annealing process, the wire is heated in a furnace for around 6-7 hours. Heat treatment enhances the properties of the wire.
Coating –
This Boron Steel Wire is finally coated with an anti-corrosion layer to protect it from rust.
